They also help improve calcium absorption, which is why plank exercise is such a valuable tool for increasing bone density. When you do plank exercises, your body is forced to work more efficiently, which can lead to better Bone density. […]

Hi Noreen, I am sorry for the delay in responding. I am sorry about the many fractures and surgeries you have had.
Thank you for your question. Yes, the plank exercise is safe for you to do but not the one shown in the photo. In my book, Strengthen Your Core, the Beginner Plank exercise starts with your hands against the wall, and as you get stronger progress from there. If the range of motion is limited in your wrist(s) you can place your knuckles against the wall. Some of my clients who are not used to putting weight on their knuckles wear leather mittens for padding (I live in Ottawa, Canada where leather mittens are easy to come by).
If you are still unsteady on your feet I highly recommend that you do daily balance exercises starting at the prehab level:

Due to falls( although my femur bone broke before I fell) I’m only now beginning to walk without a walker or cane. I’ve had 5 operations in the past 4 years for fractures. Knee, ankles, elbow and wrist. I so want to walk properly again and have been doing core exercises from my sofa. Problem is I’m unsteady on my feet. I’m 12 months post surgery for by broken wrist and ankle. My ribs fractured too but didn’t need an operations. Is the plank exercise safe for me to do?

Hi Mary, If you scroll down you will get your answer:
When done with proper form both the pushup and plank are excellent exercises. You can read more about it in the blog.
